How To Never Need A Vacation

in #life7 years ago

There’s this idea that the goal is heaven, and heaven is a vast vacation of incredible entitlement and leisure. In other words, a vacation. This is one of those times you want to be paying really close attention to the language and the ideas that inform it. See, a vacation is something you want from an analog life, from a simulation, from a lie. Whenever we are actually engaged in anything intelligent and developmentally fertile, we do not think about vacating it, ourselves, or our lives.

But when we are ceaselessly engaged in forgeries of life, community, role, and meaningful relations, well, then, the goal becomes escape. And, around here, escape is promoted as vacation. This is something sold to slaves, most of whom are, by now, actively self-and-other enslaving. The root of the matter is this: the actual goal is meaningful relations and roles, developmental efflorescence, and the experience of active communion. If that’s missing, the replacement is, itself another fiction that keeps us enslaved, to the idea that ‘heaven’ is the leisurely freedom of the entitled ‘individual’.

All of these ideas are lethal fictions, and they are fictions that are not merely told by slaves, they are invented by them. And the opposite of a vacation isn’t work; it’s invocation. Intercourse. Intimacy. Intelligence. And insight founded upon mutuality and origins rather than, for example, accounting books and courtrooms.

"Opportunity of a Lifetime"... the best word phrase I heard all day :) @sageroot

Great insight, good to see people noticing the truth of the flesh.
Even when we know all truths are but half truths.
EDIT: I-Ching...nuff said
