Oh no I dropped my phone into the water! 101

in #life8 years ago

Hello fellow steemians, a week ago my sister accidentally slipped her phone into the toilet and it got water damage. Here is a list what you should do:

Simple way

  1. Turn it off as fast as you can, cause spreading water could make a short circuit and damage motherboard

  2. Remove sim card(s), micro sd card and case (if you have one)

  3. If you phone battery is removable, remove it and keep separatly

  4. Try to soak up as much as you can with cloth or paper towels. Even with vacuum cleaner to suck out the water.

  5. And then bury your phone in uncooked rices as soon as possible. Those are gonna help suck out the remaining water in your phone. Leave it there for a couple of days.

After couple of days you can try to turn it on, even charge it and see if it works. But of course take precautions and cut off power if you see anything strange.

More advanced way

If your phone still does not turn on, try to get a new battery.

If you are skilled enough try to disassemble your phone and cleaning motherboard, contacts with rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush. You can even soak motherboard for a day or two in rubbling alcohol

Finally if that does not help, you need to go to repair shop and show device to proffesional.

Other options

If you're clumsy and drop your phone into the water a lot, try a water proof phone.

Or buy these bags and keep them with you. They help suck out the water

Buy a water resistant case

As technology advance there is more and more water proof/resistant phones in the market. So this may not concern all of you. But for those who still uses not water proof phones I wanted to share abcs of what to do when something like this happens to you.

Maybe you have some stories or tips to share with the folks?
