Do You Always Need A Plan?

It is true what they say. Life doesn’t come with a script. Imagine being asked to perform a play on stage without a script and without a rehearsal, so that you have absolutely no idea what to say or do while the audience is eagerly watching!

That is pretty much what life is. We have next to no idea about how it is going to be in the future, what we are ’supposed’ to do, who we are supposed to do it with, and yet we feel this need to do ‘something’ because everyone else seems to be doing something too.

I guess it really is true what William Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage, all the men and women merely players.”

Naturally one would think that for something as uncertain as life, it would serve us well if we could come up with a script, a plan to sail the ship of life in our desired direction. But, do we always need a plan? Is a grand plan even possible? Or is the sea just too powerful?

Taking A Leap of Faith

1.jpg

If you really think about it, we are all taking leaps of faith constantly in our lives. When you’re making a career choice for example, you don’t know how things are going to work out, and you still move forward with it.

Likewise, be it a new job, a new relationship, a new neighbourhood, a new internet provider or any other decisions, we are all taking leaps of faith. Sure, we make an informed decision to the best of our ability, but we can never say for certain how things are gonna work out.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say here is that if you’re trying to make a difficult life decision and just can’t seem to decide what to do and all you want to do is listen to you heart, it is OK to take that leap. We are doing it anyways, right?

In fact, the world that we see today, all the technology we are using today and all the great deeds that great men and women have done, none of it was planned. People just started doing things and rolled with it!

Somehow if you just start something, and give it your best, eventually, one thing will lead to the other and the path that you want to walk on will start getting built one brick at a time.

Great People Never Planned For Greatness

superman-2255832_1280.jpg

When Larry Page and Sergey Brin were building Google in a garage, they had absolutely no idea that it would be a $650 billion dollar company today or that their mobile operating system would be running in 90% of the world’s smartphones! They took a leap, chased their dreams passionately, accomplished things one by one and look at where they are today.

When Steve Jobs was working with Steve Wozniak in his garage, they didn’t have the remotest idea that their company would go on to become the richest company in the world.

Likewise, there are many great people in history, who could never have foreseen what they were going to achieve and how they were going to change the whole world, let alone plan for it!

But they still did and that’s the point I’m trying to make here. If you have passion burning in your heart, and if you truly believe in something, take the plunge. You don’t need to worry about a grand plan and know exactly how everything is going to work out and get anxious due to it.

Nike’s tag line comes to mind. Just do it! Do you know how many people quit just because of all the uncertainties in their mind and all the what ifs? I am guessing it’s a lot. But those that don’t care about all this stuff are usually the ones who end up conquering the peak.

At last, I just want to say that, “When you’re driving a car at night on a pitch black road, you don’t have to see the entire road to complete your journey. Just the 10 feet in front of you.”

Even i like the entire post very much, the very best part of it (to me) is the very LAST paragraph. Thanks

Thank you so much for the appreciation :)

Taking a leap of faith is exciting and potentially rewarding, but I would say that it should most often be based on a pros and cons valuation where pros are equal to or greater than the cons.

Driving a car on a pitch black road being able to see 0 feet in front of you would probably not be such a good idea if you value life.

Different people have different ways to calculate pros and cons thus some people are more risk averse than others.

Hearing stories about people taking a leap of faith is something most of us enjoy. It makes us feel more free to act upon our dreams, but again one should also keep in mind that most new businesses / projects fail within a few years.

So; I totally agree with you that one should go a long way to pursue a passion, but do also weigh up the pros and the cons. Some kind of a compromise might result in a greater sence of happiness.

Just a thought

Nicely put. I believe it's important to pursue your dreams and aspirations even if the risks are fairly greater. Yes, of course the pros and cons are needed to be weighed but I think we could do that after we have decided to finally pursue our dreams.

Nothing wrong with a good plan, But if you wait until you get all your ducks in a row, you will never cross the street!!
Blessings to you!!

Yeah, exactly. Most people waste their time getting all their ducks in a row.

I always say, when I Die, I never, ever want to have to say, " I wish I had..."

Exactly. I wish to have no regrets as well.

Great post.Thanks

Thank you for reading :)

Hi @sauravrungta - I think it's one of our biggest lessons to trust and not try and have it all worked out beforehand. I packed my bags three years ago and moved countries, just based on a "feeling". No plan whatsoever.

I have learned that my biggest accomplishments and joys come as a result of not having a plan.
An intention is always needed (I think...) but a plan is not.

What do they say, "Life happens while you're busy making other plans."

Let's not miss it :)

I love this line, "An intention is always needed, but a plan is not." Nicely said :)

Interesting postings that I need to follow @sauravrungta

Thank you for reading :)

great post I think we need a mix of both , most of the time we should plan and just sometimes go with the flow (just sometimes)

There are 2 things in this world, one is your plan and the other is God's plan, and every time your plan will fail against God's will, so forget about your past, enjoy the present and do not worry about your future @sauravrungta

Thanks for the motivation man, :)

hehe, I guess we all have our own ways of dealing with life :)

Well said! Whatever the mind can conceive the body can achieve. I believe faith is, the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. So you're right, we have to step out on faith in life not knowing the outcome of our work.

I believe you are talking about law of attraction? If so, yeah, I believe in it too :)

That's what makes life so exciting , you have full control over it and it's always a mystery

haha yeah, it's the duality that makes it so interesting :)

Be adventurous but always have a Plan B!

yeah, it wouldn't hurt to have a plan B, I guess :D

a very well thought out blog post!

Just do it! indeed.

Thank you for the kind words :)

Great solutions come with big challenges. Great article !

I love that line!! :D

Plan? No

Skillsets; and lots of them, FUCK YES.

That and duct tape.

hahah yeah, skills and duct tape always go hand in hand :P

Often, after we rich the goal, we know absolutely that we went the right way. Thank you for your post!

yeah, it's not about taking the right decisions but making your decisions right :)

That's exactly I believe in. Life is uncertain, don't forsee the whole life in front of you, do what you love, don't care what others are saying about you, just watch your single step and the life as you know it has been already conquered by you.
There's no guarantee of anything in this life except one thing: HARD WORK always pays off. So get out of your comfort zone and do what you fearlessly.

Lastly, @sauravrungta I am highly inspired by your work on steemit. You are a natural at writing and I hope you would keep inspiring us in the future also.
Thanks for the article though.

I agree completely. Thanks for the kind words man! I really appreciate it :)

The spirit of the post I agree with. Unless you actually make attempts at the project, business, endeavour etc., you'll never be actually able to do anything.
With that being said you still need some sort of plan. You can't just do anything you want and expect to make any money. It doesn't work that way.

yeah, I know. I guess I was trying to say that you should start and then the plan could come later.

It's good to know the "energy" and "feeling" of where one desires to head towards. But a micro-managed plan can discard any room for magic or synchronicity - and here is where it can all happen. Goals and dreams, yes, rigid plans, no.

I love your comment. Thanks for reading the post!! :)

Yes with out plan nothing is going done corrrectly good post keep sharing.

Thanks for reading :)

I am just getting out of Uni and finally taking the first steps to building my future but I'm one of those people that would question most things to do with life paths and journeys. Yeah, I questioned my own and this is where I've ended up. It basically brought me to the crypto world. A little later than most but I'm grateful for finally seeing that there's another way around the system. A way to get out there, work on your own terms, do what you love, while helping others at it and etc. That's a lot of pros if you ask me. I thought what could be the worst, this doesn't work out and I get a job like everyone else? So why not, and so I did.

I guess you don't always need a plan. Plans are good but plans can also stop you from being great. Always keep an open mind, and spend time to look around. Never know what you might miss. Cheers!

That's a really great comment and I wish you all the best for all your endeavours. I wish we can all achieve what we set out for :)

We will. We're on the right track, never felt so right in my life! Cheers!

I've found that some of the most joyous experiences that I've had have come from not having a plan! Plans tend to lead to expectations that are hard to live up to, in my opinion.

yeah. That is true especially of travelling! :D

My belief: There are phases when you plan and they work out very well.
Then there are phases, when they don't. What you do then is make another plan and strive to make it a success.
What if that doesn't work out as well?
Ans: keep working (karma) on something and something (not necessarily the same thing you are working for) will manifest, and it will satisfy your quest.
Learning and development along the journey are most important.
Great post Saurav 🍻

Karma is all we humans can do. :) Thanks for reading man :)

What a incredible article, we oldies dont know all these things only came into computers late in life after working hard and going on pension, that is what I love about steem you learn someting new every day. Thank you

Ah, thank you so much for that wonderful comment. I really appreciate it :)

My brother keeps telling me to quit my job, maybe he's right!

If you hate your job, why not!!

I've never been very good at jumping into things without a plan... part of which (I think) has to do with the fact that I am really bad at "thinking on my feet." I don't need a BIG plan... but at least a rough sketch.

A rough sketch is actually very important. We can't walk towards our goals blindly. :D

You right, through my life, I always have plan 1 - 2 - 3 If the first one does not work, I will go to the next. etc. I believe that is the only way to make it in life.

Having back up plans is good. But to take that first step, you should be driven by passion and not plans. That's how think anyways :)

Eckhart Tolle has a book called the power of now. You don't have to worry so much about making intense or elaborate future plans.Make your 'now' count. No one is certain about the future so do your best and watch how life unfolds. Your post is really inspirational. Thanks for sharing. I resteemed

Yes, that is pretty much how I think as well. Make the now count. Such an important message!

Nice post telling the importance of doing now. Glancing at the map is enough for journey to reach the destination(But need it!) Thanks~! :D

Haha, perfectly said!! :D

Think with pencil in hand

In the darkest corners of the world, even a sliver of light can bring much joy and prosperity.

That is so true :)

Wow man, you are doing great!

Thank you! :)

Just do it 👏👏👏👏👏👏

I need the plans! Where are those plans!

That's the point my lord. There are no plans!! :P

Even though there so many examples that succeeded, many people still think they are not good enough! I think everybody brings that fire and passion and just has to find it!

Thank you veru much for this post! It's truly amazing!

Thank you for taking the time to read :)

Sometimes, going in "blind" is where the greatest result come from! #truestory!! Great post. I look forward to more.
