Steemians It Is Time For A Vision Check @senseicat

in #life6 years ago

In many schools these days, one of the benefits is a rudimentary vision check. I thought that if there was no issue, my son's vision must be just fine. I realized that no one from the school ever contacted me to say that my son's vision needed further checking and that is when I figured out that it is best to have a vision check by an optometrist rather than depend on the school.

I realized to never rely on your child by asking them if their vision has changed because in my experience the answer is always no because the changes are often subtle. My son's coach mentioned that he throwing is not accurate and then I scheduled an appointment and it turns out that his vision has changed significantly! Look for clues and sometimes those clues are from folks who care outside the home.

I asked the optician to expedite the new lens because my son has a tournament coming up so hopefully, they will arrive soon so that my son has the gift of 20/20!

You are so right, @sensicat! Kids sometimes don't realize that better is really better, lol! Their eyes can change dramatically from year to year, especially during growth spurts. I am a licensed optician, and what I see in the clinic I work in is that kids keep changing up until sometimes into their early 20's. Generally, they should have an annual exam. @silvertop is correct that there are a host issues that sometimes have no symptoms at all. Hence, he should take the advice of his optician wife!! I'll be rooting for your son's team in the tournament! Let us know here on Steem how it goes! Have a nice night!

It’s good to have your vision checked every couple of years. There are other vision issues that can be there that don’t give any tell tale signs. I don’t follow this very wise advice, and I get berated by my very lovely optician wife LOL 😇
She will probably read this brownie points....😁

It seems like vision becomes more stable when kids become teenagers, but at this moment, it seems like our son benefits from more frequent checks. You are very lucky to have a Steemian optician wife!

Very much so😀
Now she is going to want me to come in and get my eyes checked LOL

I just got mine checked the other day my eye doctor says it’s a miracle one of my eyes works harder than the other or I’d be in real trouble
