Memorial Day

In the US, it's a holiday weekend. Memorial Day, they call it. It's a day for remembering military personnel who have died while performing their duties. When I was a kid, I didn't realize that's what the holiday was for, because my family also used it as a time to remember civilian loved ones who had died.

One of my first memories of Memorial Day as a kid was when my dad's side of the family got a new grave marker for his sister, who died as an infant. They buried her in the 1950s but didn't have a proper grave marker until the 1980s. We went out and visited that new grave site for Memorial Day, even though she was not in the military. She died when she was only 2 years old because she got into the medicine cabinet. Back then, they didn't have child-proof caps on bottles.

There's no one in my family who died serving their country, though there are active serving members of the military and some who fought in wars. My maternal grandfather was a World War II veteran, but he made it home alive, thank goodness.

Where am I going with this?

I don't even know. Haha. I started off wanting to just make a blog post, since I have time off, and I do not post enough. The original intention was to show excitement that I have four days in a row off of work.

It's rainy and cold today, so I'm not sure what I'll get into today. There are a lot of things I could do around the house, and some errands I need to run later. I have to go to an actual bank for the first time in what feels like a million years. I can usually even deposit checks with my phone, but not always. There's an upper limit to how much the check can be for mobile deposits. That's a good problem to have, I suppose.

Let's be honest, I'll be playing a lot of Splinterlands today

When I finish my errands and my chores, I may just take the rest of the day to do whatever the hell I want. Work was sort of hell this week and I have a long weekend ahead of me to accomplish things. The Splinterlands season has just about 3 days left and my @sharkmonsters account is currently in Diamond III and working toward Diamond II. My goal is to make it to the Champion League this season if I can. I haven't made it to that league in a long time, but I used to do it every season.

I'm also playing as @ts-goblin, which is just about in Diamond III. That's the highest league achievable with that account's collection rating. It's a leased account; I don't own the cards. I delegate a couple useful cards of my own to it, but that's it.
