The taj mahal is known throughout the world as the loviest specimen of indian architecture. some say most beautiful the world has ever seen.
it was built by the shah jehan in memory of his beloved queen , mumtaz mahal, whose tomb it forms.
Taj mahal is really a modern way of pronouncing her name.
Muntaz mahal , 'crown of the palace', wasf famous throughout the land for her charity and wisdom as well as for her beauty , she was married to shah jehan in 1622 and died in 1631 , four years after her husband became Emperor of the great mohul Empire.
Shah jehans grief was so great that he wished to give up his throne .
he was persuaded to remain , however , and resolved to build for his beloved wife the most beautiful building in the world . twenty thousand men worked upon it for twenty two years , twenty precious kind of stones were used , and its design was chosen from among those submitted by all the best architects in the moghul Empire.

The taj mahal , near agra , stands on a marble terrace ,with a beautiful mosque on either sides . it stands amidist some very lovely gardens and its reflection is mirrored in a long lake.
