A River in Arizona...life

Last week in Phoenix, 9 people lost their lives in a flash flood. For those who don't live in this area, a flash flood is a foreign concept. The easiest way to describe what happens out here is, since we don't get rain often, the river beds are like concrete, the water isn't absorbed in the aquifer. The water has no other option other than move as a wall of water.

2 days ago the Santa Cruz river was a collection of mud puddles. Today, with the enthusiasm of a child on Christmas day, I went down to the river to enjoy the water flow. To put the above picture in perspective, the river bed is 50 yards across and 12 feet high to the walk way. The water is running at about 4 feet deep and about 20 yards across. By this time tomorrow it will be bone dry...😢
