A very painful and dark chapter in germans history, which even causes controversial debates till this day.
It is important, to never forget about the value of freedom.

Great Post Tony!

very deep picture. And you're right, things like this should never be forgotten!

I remember the day the wall fell down.

I was 14 years old and grew up in East Germany. The end of the Wall was unimaginable for me as teenager. I can remember that as kid I learned in school that the WALL was a fact consisting for ever and the chances of a peaceful reunification of Germany were very low to zero. I feared the 3rd World War.

So sad that after the happy decade from 1990 till 2001 where everything seemed possible we are now facing again worldwide confrontations.

wow, thank you for sharing! very interesting, I wasn't aware that they were teaching in school that the wall was going to be there forever, and a united germany wouldn't be possible. That's crazy. thankfully we ended that area.
and you are right, now the world is facing different problems again!

We need Blockchains not Borders!

This post was quite a trip down memory lane for me!
I was stationed in West Germany during the 1980's while the cold war was still quite hot. The Berlin Brigade had the assigned duty of patrolling the wall; I remember riding around on the back of an M151A1 hanging onto an M60 with the ominous, and ever present thought in my mind that the NVA was on the other side of that wall watching, and patrolling exactly like we were. The era still hold an aura surrealism for me because I never thought the Cold War would end.

thank you for sharing, that's so crazy! like @twinner mentioned below, it's so strange to think nowadays that people believed the wall would be there forever, the cold war would never end and germany would never unite. things have changed so much (for the better!!)

I was born in Berlin and have been living here for over the 40 years.

Your paper is very good, I even still some things to learn!

Thanks ahib

thank you, that's great to hear! How did you experience the wall?

I was 14 years old, as the wall opened. My mother picked me up in the early evening reout of bed. We then went to the bordercrossing to Warschauerstraße and we stood with long before the wall and waiting ready the file was opened. I had it a little red pocket radio and heard all current messages to. ....many people were standing neatly in a row ...... it was extremely quiet .... the smell of tension was in the air.

It was such an amazing trip! It scares me until today what happened at the Berlin Wall.
The Cover- and last picture are my favourites !

it was a dark chapter of german history but luckily they overcame it!
great steemit weekend!

so interesting, you definitely pointed out a few details I didnt know!

thank you, glad you enjoyed it!

the remains look like nothing, but this was once such a powerful wall with such a great meaning, crazy

definitely. It's hard to imagine but this wall decided over the fate of so many lives

very informative, thanks for sharing. great read!

glad to hear that you liked the post, thank you.

really interesting, and also love the photos at the end !

reading about the "death strip" gives me shivers. they purposely put mines on there, that's crazy! just to keep some people from crossing a border!!

it's really crazy what humans are capable of doing to other humans!

my favorite pic is the one where everyone celebrates when the wall fell. you can see how relieved they are and what a big event his must have been!!

absolutely - most people couldn't even believe it, it was the happiest and biggest event of their youth

Wow, nice story, good research! Thanks for sharing this.

happy to hear that you enjoyed it! I think history is very interesting and important, especially huge events like this!

awesome post. i love history, it's sooo interesting!!

great post once again. i appreciate all the researching and effort. Upped!

thank you :)

weird to think that they would just put a huge wall like that through the middle of a country. all just to keep the people trapped inside, and the economy happy. humans are crazy sometimes.

absolutely. drastic measures like this are not always the best solution. everyone in the DDR was unhappy so in the end the wall fell anyway!

they just built the wall overnight, and never gave the people a chance to notice what's going on! :O
thanks for sharing the information!

yes, it was a state secret and nobody had any idea that this was going to happen. They played dirty tricks but at least the wall fell in the end!

Nice trip. It is a wonderful places. I wish I can go there too.

This is so cool. Love the historical journey. Followed!

thank you! and glad to hear that you enjoyed it, historical events like this should never be forgotten!
