Missing My Mother

It’s been a while since I last saw my mother. The last time we’ve spent time together was more than a year ago, when we drove her to the airport for her flight back to Singapore. That was unplanned vacation for her, my mother had to go home to the Philippines because her youngest brother, who is also my favorite uncle died. She only spent five days here in the Philippines, we didn’t have that much time together because of my uncle’s funeral. It was a dismal moment to remember.

Distance and Adversities

It’s tough to have a mother, who’s far away from you, I mean literally far. That’s the usual agony of the OFW’s children, the distance is no joke. And the worst part is, when you’re used to not seeing your mother or your father, it’s really hard to adjust. It’s very complicated, physically and emotionally. All the adversities are coming back to my memory each time I’m missing my mom. This is all I have to deal with and my family left at home. I know the reason why she have to work away from the country, yet the emotion is so hard to control.

Communication and Time

Believe it or not, before, we experienced writing letters through snail mail as our way of communication. I can vividly remember it because I was the one, who’s in-charge to send mails in the post office. I cannot believe that it’s been that long my mother is working outside the country. It’s been over 12 years already. She does spend vacation with us usually every two years. Communication between my mom and us (family) should be no problem because we don’t have to spend much and it’s real- time unlike before. There are lots of free apps out there that you can use as long as you have Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, you cannot BUY time. My mother still rarely call us, coz she’s very busy at work and I know that. That’s been our situation before, now, and until indefinite time. I just wish I have more money, so that I can send her home and be with us again, just like a typical family. Sadly, I don’t have money for now, maybe someday. It’s out of my control apparently.

Sacrifice

Sacrifice is mandatory for overseas workers. This is a serious matter because the relationship in each member of the family is involved. It can ruin the relationship between the husband and the wife as well as the children. In Philippines, financial matters have always been the reason why parents work abroad. And, having a bright future for the family have always been the goal, always. But, unfortunately not all of them worked as planned. You can just imagine how huge is at stake living a life away from your family to provide their needs. A lot of Filipinos are gambling the future of their family out of the country, and my mother is one of them. They believe that it’s the only hope.

Opportunity

As the saying goes “opportunity knocks our door only once”, so we better take advantage on every possible opportunity in life. I’ve been privilege to visit my mother in Singapore in 2015. She told me to apply for my passport way too soon before the D-Day. So, I did what I was told to do. I can’t believe I got my passport then. Before, I never thought of going out of the country, riding in a plane is unimaginable. I can remember how anxious and paranoid I was before our flight. Yes, I am not travelling alone. I was with my grandmother, my uncle and his wife and their four children (my younger cousins).

Meet my seatmate, my grandmother.

Riding an airplane for the first time is not exciting at all. I was paranoid almost the whole time I’m on the plane. Dare not to laugh at me. Hehe. Thank God, we landed in the Changi Airport safe and sound. I conquered the jitters. Haha. I am proud of myself!

Opportunity has been very kind to me and knocks my door again for the second time. Yep, I was able to visit my mom again in Singapore for the second time in year 2016. That time was with my two cousins along with two of their friends. Don’t tell me we are rich, because we’re absolutely not. My cousins found a very cheap tickets a few months before our flight. I tell you, it’s very cheap. Hehe. I was not actually part of their plan to travel, but since my mother is the one, who will arrange and spend for their accommodation, she told my cousins to drag me along with them. My mother wanted to see even just one of her children with my cousins travelling. My brothers don’t have passports, so I’m the most qualified to go.

Third time riding in a plane is still an issue for me, I hope I can just dust it off. Poor me.

Third Opportunity

And another opportunity knocked, yes, it’s my third chance to visit my mother. I missed my mom badly, so I am excited to fly back to Singapore. My flight is actually tonight together with my cousins and we’ll be back on May 9, it’s about a week. We will be leaving home this morning going to Manila

I might be away from the Steemit World for awhile, but I will surely drop by as long as I have the
chance.

By the way, I am planning to make a selfie verification in Singapore. See you when I see you everyone!

We can never tell our parents how much we love them. Even when they are gone, we feel we may have not said it enough.

Yes, you're right. That's why we should take every opportunity to say how much we love them.
