What is your car trouble?

I want to give back to Steemit community and provide some help on something that I know very well. Cars and how to fix them.

Please ask me about your car issue. Won't go into gear. Strange sounds. Don't know if you should take your car in to the shop. Just ask.

Send me the make, model, and year along with car symptoms.

My car is a Honda Pilot 2004. I parked on a spot, smelt some kind of strange things from the car. Then left it for about 2 hours. Then when I turned it on again the gear wouldn’t change. It is stuck to park(P)

I don't know what the smell is, but the shifter will have a lock built into it to prevent you from shifting out of park without the brake pressed as a safety mechanism. There is a an electrical brake signal that will unlock the shifter. It is usually the brake switch on the brake pedal that goes bad. It is a pretty easy replacement. There is also a solenoid mechanism that prevents the transmission from shifting out of park that could have failed. It is much more difficult to replace.

First check if the brake lights come on. If they don't, then it is a dead giveaway that the switch on the brake pedal is bad. Sometimes the switch will go bad intermittently. If you pump the brake several times and the car comes out of park, then the pumping action cycles the switch and sometimes it starts working. Sometimes you can get a screwdriver and tap the switch to get it working again. That will only work temporarily. If you get it working, expect it to happen again until you get that switch replaced.

Just as you mentioned. I pumped the brake like severally and I was finally able to get the gear out of park.
I’ll have to replace the switch so it doesn’t disturb my movement again. I was actually kind of scared.
Thank you @socky

Glad I was able to help.

Hello friend, I tell you, I have a Fiat model UNO 2006, here in Venezuela things are so bad, but so bad that one can not neglect the car.
because they can steal it.
today I took my wife to buy some things and park the car.
then accompany it but leave the car in the street, to my surprise is that when I started the car to go to the house, began to turn on the light that indicates, lack of engine oil.
as I know that here, they steal that, if people are dedicated to steal the oils from cars, then resell or use them in their own cars. the level of evil has no limit in this country. good to see that indicator turn off the car and check the oil, my suspicion was met, the oil was stolen, I asked a friend to tow me to my house, I have to wait until tomorrow a mechanic to see if he had more damage.

That is a real drag!
As long as you shut the car down right away, then there should be no damage. Cars can sometimes go a really long time before the engine stops due to no oil. You should be fine.

If you are concerned about starting the motor with no oil in the bearings, you can remove the spark plugs and crank the engine until you get oil pressure. Then put the plugs back in. That would take the load off of the bearings until the oil pressure is back.

This gives me a lot of laughter hahaha is funny
