There is something special about fire with the outdoors.
Every trip to to the outdoors is an opportunity to have a camp fire. This brings back very good memories of huge camp fires and fun drunken conversations.
Here is a fire pit that my buddy built from an old propane BBQ grill. He just took out the old guts and put in a coil of tubing with holes drilled in it. Throw some lava rock on top and we have a fire pit.
The only problem is that little gas BBQ pit really isn't like the real cave man fire.
No one can tell me that there is enough wood. There is never enough wood. When I can get a fire like this going, I can heat a 30 foot perimeter.
Ultimately, there is something magical about a nice hot fire on a cold night. I am just mesmerized by it. Am I crazy?

Nothing like a good campfire. thanks for sharing @socky !! Looks so inviting :)
If that was in Portugal, we would be roasting chestnuts in the fire, it's a tradition this weekend! Eating warm chestnuts and contemplating the fire only adds up to the magic. ;)
That is awesome idea. No chestnuts here though. One time I was in the mountains in late summer and found an apple tree full of apples. The apple tree was not there naturally. Someone planted it long ago. The problem is that the high altitude created a short season for the apple tree and did not provide enough time for the apples to ripen. They were so bitter that they were impossible to eat. My friend suggested to cook them in the camp fire. We cut them into thin apple slices. We had a expanded metal grate that we were able to suspend over the hot coals. I put the thin apple slices over the heat and roasted them. Once they were cooked, they were the best apples that I ever had. I never knew that we could make such a great treat.
Sounds nice @socky, I lived in Colorado at the altitude of 7,980 feet..... our living room elevation. People told me you couldn't grow apple trees in this high desert, so I created micro climates around the house. The apple trees grew well, they just never produced any fruit. Good times, and we saw -22 below..... :)
resteemed !
That is really high up there. That sounds something that I would try just to prove I could do it.
Yeah..... local people told me no way I was wasting my time.... I'm stubborn :)
Hum... roasted apple sounds really good too! ;)
