The "name day" seems to be a vestigial ritual from an era when Scandinavia was Christian. It is likely baptism day, converted by secularism to "naming day." The spiritual birth, or re-birth, would be as, if not more, important than the physical birth day for the Christian Finland, but for a secular society, and for a secular family, such rituals seem hollow.
