Ordinary streets | Extraordinary moments | #3

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I find one of my best moments is just sitting in a place and silently looking around the space, see what is happening, notice little moments, stories, life.

There is a routine in people taking the train, especially in the Netherlands, where percentage wise many people daily commute to and from work between cities.

People taking a train, waiting for a train, maybe even waiting for a friend to arrive by train... All people do is checking the station's clock, checking their train app to see if there's (yet another, we would sigh) a delay, or a text message from that friend saying 'I don't know why but my train hasn't left the station yet'...

[No, driving the train in the Netherlands is not bad at all, it's quite amazing what is being achieved if you look at the amount of trains driving in such a very small and very 'full' country, but yeah, it's something we like to complain about anyway.]

Back to the station and me sitting there, on a bench, as if I were waiting for a train, but instead waiting for a story to capture.

It happened, right in front of me. A man, seemingly confused, holding a cup of coffee, putting it next to him on the bench. Wind blows, the cup falls. The man stands up, grabs the cup, puts it back on the bench again. Why? It was clearly empty already.

It happened again. The paper he now lies next to the cup blows away too.

The man doesn't give up.

Talks to himself.

Stands up again, walks around, sits down again.

I take the shot.

He grabbed his cup. I grabbed my story.

[What I cut out of the picture is the garbage bin just outside of this frame. Why he didn't just throw away the stuff he didn't need anymore? I don't know.]

WOW. I liked the symmetrical features on this photo!

<3 Thank you @artizm!

I love this photo, and the story makes it even better.

...and by the way, I wish train stations in the U.S. were that nice.

Hey @jctdesign, yes, this station turned out lovely indeed! It has just been finished and a lot of stations in the Netherlands got a great make-over - it really makes it more pleasant to 'wait' for your train in a place like this :-) Thanks for leaving a comment!

Nice picture and a very nicely told story!
I haven't done any real street photography for many years now and I think I am starting to miss it :)

Maybe start by sharing some of your 'old' stuff? :D To get inspired again? Would love to see some of your street photography, it's a fun game!

Thank you @soyrosa but when I say many years I mean like 20 years and that means film stored in a warehouse about 500 km away from were I live :)
Nevertheless I have done some digging into the last decades files (the digital ones) and maybe there is something worth posting!
My main goal thought is to shoot new stuff and I couldn't agree with you more, it is a fun game!

Agreed, I can come up with songs I want to write while sitting around or during quiet times. Beautiful.

I believe we need to be quiet more often...

Magical. When I am quiet, amazing things happen.

Great color combination ,also good composition and harmony....

Thank @mnallica, your comment is always appreciated!
