Walk down the street and see a cop - do you smile and say "Hello"?
Do you treat them like any other person?
Or do you look the other way, ignore them, get nervous or anxious even though you've done "nothing wrong"!
I get it.
Cops have power. Some cops abuse that power.
It's natural to fear that abuse of power.
There's a lot of tension between police and citizens. And plenty of stories and videos are circulating that increase that tension.
Well, here's a feel-good story about hundreds of teens motivated to go ALL OUT to show their appreciation for one cop at their school. I work with teens, so I know how extraordinary it is that they went the extra mile.
Cops, and other people in positions of power, have a tough job. They need respect, appreciation and support, like all of us do. Expressing appreciation to them, or just treating them like any normal person, can help them be more relaxed and fair on the job. This can help them be respectful and appreciative of the folks they work with.
Enjoy!
