Hi followers ... !
Several days ago I got contacted by my employment agency; they offered me a long-term contract with a guaranteed and decent income. Sounds great, isn't it ... ? Despite this however, I decided to turn down their offer.
Compared to my fellow countrymen, my view on work is quite unconventional in the sense that I'm not terribly interested in making a career and instead trying to find an excellent balance between work and available time for leisure. Now, agreeing with a long-term contract with my employment agency would result in an obligation for me to accept work up to 100 km from where I live. For me, this is a big no-no as I live in a densely populated country that is plagued with traffic jams 7 days a week. Wasting time and fuel in a seemingly endless traffic jam is truly one of the things I hate the most.
You might ask: is something trivial like increased commuting times really a reason to turn down a long-term contract with guaranteed income? For me definitely YES. Seriously, I've commuted hours a day for work in the past and my experience is that it makes a regular working day much, much harder. I've seen many days in 2015 in which I began the day with a 2 hour drive to my work, all the while enduring traffic jams and dodging countless idiots on the road. After that, the day at work finally began, and then the exhausting trip towards home commenced. At home, I sat on the couch like a sack of potatoes most of the time because my brain was more or less fried ... !
So in a nutshell; this is the reason for my decision. Btw, I think long commuting times between home and work are going to vanish largely in the next 15 to 20 years. But this is something for another topic ;) Seeya ... !
I think you have your priorities set straight. Trading of security for time is not always a good thing. People seem to forget it is not only time you loose but it can affect how you feel later in the day, and it repeats every workday. It's just not a healthy way to live.
