One thing about the Germans , well two, good sausage and good beer. Damn make that three, good pastries.
Texas has a lot of German influence and so we have quite a few places that are similar to Schmidts, and I just love 'em. Kolaches are great German breakfast pastry with meat inside, I'm pretty sure you have had a few of those I would guess.
You are correct @sultnpapper! It was a trifecta of goodness. Those kolaches sounds amazing too. We have a Russian restaurant back home that serves something very similar.
