So about 4 months ago I was at the point where I needed a new car I went and looked at a dealership and everything I looked at seemed to be overpriced or looked like it was a copy of another car.
So I got the idea why do i need all of the fancy computers and features in new cars. They are only going to get expensive to fix and I remember the 2008 Malibu I bought my wife and all of the issues that "New" cars have and how to you have to take the whole front end off the vehicle to just change a light bulb.
My favorite vehicle I ever owned was a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.
So I decided to buy a great conditions jeep and basically build a new 1995 jeep.
Looked online for a rust free body with decent paint. $2500 + 550 shipping
It has the 5.2 liter V8 so I had a rebuilt engine put in the SUV $4400.00
This included Swapping out the common wear and tear parts of the engine.
Swapped the headlights and tail lights for new. $240.00
Had Paint matching and sealing of entire vehicle paint (looks amazing) 2400.00
So for around 10,000 Dollars I have a vehicle that will last 200,000 miles and looks brand new the best part is that I can actually work on it.
That is 1/3 the price of entry level 2017 jeep. if you were to buy the limited V8 version your talking 60-70k I make enough to buy a vehicle like that but why would I want to buy one ?
It gets decent gas mileage about what the new ones do with an ECU flash. And it truly sounds and drives like a new Jeep.
I have declared value insurance of the value of what I have into it. Best part is in 8 more years I can get collectors plates.
I have enjoyed building a new old jeep I don't plan on selling it so it was the right option for me.
