RE: The End Of The World

Yes, children remember things even into their adulthood. Things that were said in passing could have a big impact on the child without the parent noticing. One of my children was having trouble doing something when she was young and I just mentioned that it was "just common sense." Many years after she was grown she told me that on a major test when she was applying to college that the professor told the students not to be so nervous that most of the test was "just common sense". And, my daughter reminded me that I had always remarked that she was a very smart girl book wise but had no common sense. I was stunned on hearing that I had said that and she felt that she was doomed to fail the important test because I had said that to her in passing. As I have gotten older I am more careful with off the cuff words.

That is a very good point. It is funny though. I constantly watching what I say in case I say something to her that could have an adverse effect but still things slip through. I know though that Iwill most likely not t repeat mistakes that were made with me which makes me quite happy!
