Americana Art on the 4th of July (Original Photos and comment contest)

in #life7 years ago

Walking the dog earlier in the baking sun in the small town of Amherst, Ohio we had a chance to witness some local artwork from Mike Sekletar and Ryan Shannon. While I am an anarchist, I do realize in these tough times financially, economically and socially in this country, the folks who enlisted didn't have internet, free press or any of the things we have to keep ourselves out of dangerous government programs, such as war. I salute their bravery and doing what they thought was best at the time and sacrificing their lives for a cause that was sold to them in the name of God, Country and Family. God bless all of your souls.

This is a partial view of the mural. I really like the use of the external flag at the top portion of the building. Really brings it alive. (Korea and Iwo Jima memorial)

Sorry for the sun in this one, but there was literally no shade. Closeup on the Korea memorabilia:

I especially liked this one of the Vietnam Memorial, albeit another victim of the sun:

I really prefer the Romero Britto and Dean Russo styles of art over the traditionally american ones. The colors and lines are reminiscent of Warhol, but there's more vibrancy to them.

Agree with the sentiment. We act as if the boots of these soldiers are the Nike shoes we wear today.
