The catastrophic effects of the first and second World War, terrorism, violent confrontation, institutionalized exploitation, poverty, underdevelopment, among others on the world socio-economic and political landscape are the catalysts that necessitated the need and call for a culture of peace globally and the Global Movement for the culture of peace; as a necessary desirability. Warfare like all forms of social behaviour is a product of society, but is more common in some places than others. Citing as examples the Semi of Malaysia as among the most peace-loving of the World's people, rarely resort to violence. In contrast, the Yanomamo living in scattered villages along the borders of Venezuela and Brazil are quick to wage war. This implies that society holds the key to war or peace.
Consequently, there is a global concern to promote peace through institutional structures that encourage the culture of peace in and among all societies of the World. It is in the obvious and immense advantages if peace as a global desirability hence a universal hallmark that the pursuit of world peace is championed by the United Nations and its many agencies among other stakeholders globally.
