I heard in sports news today that the fans have the power on decisions a indoor football team makes. Salt Lake Screaming Eagles allows the fans to make the final decision from the name of the team, to the coach and also the roster. I thought what a great idea. How many times have we as fans seen terrible signings of players we don't want to watch play. They either have a bad background, over payed, or just not a big need for the weaknesses in the team. So why not allow the fans to do the voting? We pay to watch the games and from watching almost all of the games we know what the team needs to perform at a higher level.
So what happened was the Screaming Eagles were interested in Greg Hardy. One of the more talented defensive lineman that played in the nfl. He would have no problem being successful versus indoor football players. So the team and coaches wanted Mr. Hardy and now it was up to the fans. The fans vetoed the trade. This guy has domestic violence record of beating an ex girlfriend badly along with cocaine possession. It is good to see that it doesn't matter how great of an athlete someone is they wont get away with being a tyrant.
So what do you think of sports teams allowing the final decision made by their own fans? This would be a majority vote. Prediction models are set up by having people vote to get the best results. And the majority usually give the most accurate results. This would be a great way of not only the teams making better decisions, but imo making the fans happier to pay for tickets to come to the games. The future of bringing fans closer to sports by being involved in the organizational decisions could make sports even more popular then it is today.
