"If hurricane Florence comes here, I'm leaving and not coming back"

the-witty-waiter a few days ago

It's been just over a year since the last storm hit my little island community. Hurricane Irma caused major flooding and I ended up having to go stay with my parents for the next several months. We were lucky that it didn't hit us directly like the previous year with Matthew but the effects were just as serious for quite a few. My neighbors a few houses down from me had just gotten back into their newly renovated house after being flooded the last time so I guess it could have been worse.

My parents were awesome and had no problem with me staying with them and I think my mom was glad to have me home and a little sad to see me go when the repairs had been finished. My dad was cool too but I never, ever want to have to watch another episode of "The Curse of Oak Island", "Alaskan Bush People", or "Bering Sea Gold". I'm pretty sure that scarred me more than catching my parents in the act when I was little. 🤪

I'm convinced that hurricanes have become "Media Porn" and as I watched some of the coverage, I kept hoping that the reporters would get knocked out with some flying debris for being so dishonest and irresponsible with the their stories. I'm sure many of you saw the guy acting like he's fighting the winds to relay his report while people are casually walking behind him. I get that these storms shouldn't be taken lightly but don't try and bullshit us in the process.

I'm glad we were spared and I hope the people who weren't so lucky are able to recover quickly. Keep them in your thoughts.

As always, thanks for reading.

Peace!

howdy sir witty-waiter! yes I saw that report! lol. what a bunch of bull. it's serious enough that they don't have to do that. Wow one of your neighbors just got their place repaired when they got hit again? dang.

are you guys just getting rain there?
how was work, you off for a few days?

We really didn't get much of anything. A strong breeze was about it.

The neighbors are back in their house again. A few people on my street had their houses raised or rebuilt because of flooding. Things are back to normal but we're all a little gun shy now

must be a scary experience to go through. Glad all worked out ok. @claudiaz via kryptonia

I saw that. Hope they are able to recover quickly

I know what you mean. I was hit by Maria, I live in US Virgin Islands. @starjewel via Kryptonia

I used to live on St. Croix when I was in high school. I had already moved away when Hugo hit there but my aunt and uncle and my cousins still lived there at the time. I know how devastating it can be. I hope you're able to return to St Thomas if you still want to. I love the ocean but I'm thinking seriously about higher ground in the near future. Key West is one of my favorite places that I've lived but after going through a few hurricanes there, I don't know if I will return to live

Be strong and confident buddy.

I guess it is the hurricane season? It must be awful living in a place where you are at the mercy of the weather. I hope all is past now. Cheers!

If you think about it, there isn't many places where you aren't dealing with something. Fires, tornadoes, blizzards, flooding, earthquakes, and extreme heat, just to name a few. We are all going to get some kind of natural disaster if we don't start taking better care of the planet

well done nice blog

Here in Kerala we had same experience a month back. Even now some are staying in relief camps as their homes are taken away by the recent flood.

2018 was not good for so many people as many disasters happened. In India also we had so much natural disasters this year till now and lost so many life.

False media is wicked, even have to check if news is actual news, perhaps you will find more actual news in places like Steemit with people living in areas sharing their lives.

Glad to hear you are safe, find somewhere to live away from natural disasters is possible @the-witty-waiter

@kryptonia all the way.

Those of us who see these hurricanes through television do not even have the remote idea of what all those who are experiencing this terrible situation have to go through.
Unfortunately, nature behaves more and more aggressively, I imagine the uncertainty that this produces in addition to fear.
I wish everyone was well.
I used google translator.

I'm glad you are alrigth and I really hope that there will be no more hurricanes especially to thos ewho experience dit and has not been over it.

It is sad to see some journalist using it as 'media porn' and photographers that go there to 'risk their lives to take good picture' I get it if it is to inform people or for scientific research but some journalist just went there to get 'news' for 'iews' which is extremely sad.

I barely even watch the news anymore. It's more focused on ratings then reporting the truth anyways.
