A genius move from Pornhubs marketing team?!
Normally, porn adds are seen as f****** annoying when they pop up while surfing. But why make annoying ads when you can get into the headlines of public newspapers as well? Yes, you have read right - porn promotion in public newspapers! The marketing geniuses of the world's leading online porn website - pornhub.com - have accomplished to do that.
How? They just kept their eye open for names of cities that could be connected to sex, etc.. and did this:
From what I have heard so far, those places rather suffer from their names (which I can't really understand) because it attracts many people to come to there place (which I can even understand less why that would bother the city). At least in Fucking there have been some petitions to change the name - which fortunately wasn't done. By telling those people that they should be proud to live there and granting them free access to Pornhubs premium features, they have made it into the newspapers. Maybe this will open the eyes of the inhabitants towards using their place's names for profit instead of being ashamed and annoyed. At least it has been a great advertisement for both Pornhub and those cities.
What do you think about this marketing move and the names of those places in general?
I think it is a great example of how important a great marketing team is and how much value companies should shift towards having a good one!
If you would like to combine a trip to my beautiful home country Austria with visiting those places, I suggest the following route through some of those premium places ;)

In dem Fall handelt es sich ja eigentlich nicht um Marketing (owned media), sondern um ausgezeichnet gemacht PR (earned media - sprich: kein Inserat, sondern ungewöhnliche Story, die aufgrund der Nachrichtenfaktoren halt auch von einem Medium aufgegriffen wurde). Hut ab vor den KollegInnen (PR-Consultants meine ich - ich arbeite nicht bei PornHub)!
Sie haben übrigens damit noch mehr geschafft: Dein Artikel macht die Aktion wieder etwas bekannter (hatte das tatsächlich auf derstandard.at noch nicht gelesen - hat also wieder ein paar Leute mehr erreicht :-)).

Fucking hat ja immer wieder mal für einiges an Gelächter in englischsprachigen Ländern gesorgt: Hier zum Beispiel, als eine englische Talkshow in Fucking angerufen hat:
Auch interessant der Unterschied zwischen den beiden Wikipediaeinträgen zu Fucking: der deutsche Wikipediaeintrag ist wesentlich kürzer als der englischsprachige, was auch sehr gut zeigt, wie groß das Interesse in englischsprachigen Ländern für dieses kleine Dorf ist!
Man könnte hier definitiv Kapital daraus schlagen, indem man zB einen Souvenirshop mit Sexspielzeug und Miniaturen der Ortstafel eröffnet oder Lokale "Best Fucking Restaurant" oder so nennt :D
PS: Sehr cool finde ich auch die Route von Kissing nach Wedding, die sich sogar super in chronologischer Reihenfolge abfahren lässt ;)

Was Promotion angeht lässt Pornhub ja schon seit Jahren immer wieder eine Bombe platzen.
Was ich von dem Ortsnamen Fucking halten soll weiß ich nicht so recht.
Irgendwie ganz lustig andererseits, denke ich mir wie kann man einen Ort nur so nennen.
Das habe ich mich auch schon einmal gefragt: Weil der vom Ortsgründer (wenn ich es richtig im Kopf habe ein gewisser Fokko) kommt und sich über die Jahrhunderte halt verändert hat. (Siehe auch Wikipedia dazu.) Hat mit der Englischen Bedeutung nichts zu tun!

Einfach mal optimaler Nutzen von bestehenden Ressourcen... auch wenn die Einwohner aus Fucking dies wohl differenziertes sehen. Dem Marketing-Team muss man hier auf jeden Fall mal ein Lob aussprechen, dass Sie dies dann auch ganz kontrovers in den Mainstream-Medien zur Debatte stellen.

Insgesamt finde ich es beeindruckend wieviel das Marketing heutzutage ausmacht ... glaubst du / die Community das man fast zu viel Wert auf Marketing im Vergleich zum Produkt legt?

Next to some kind of Bierstube/hotel and a few streets with houses you meet people posing and the signs with joy and grimpy locals driving giving you the look of "Those fucking tourists..."

Wenn ich mir allerdings das beigefügte Video mit den respektlosen (und häufig wohl alkoholisierten) Idioten ansehe, kann ich durchaus nachvollziehen, dass die Dorfbewohner angepisst sind, die einfach nur ihre Ruhe haben wollen (das hört man deutlich im O-Ton des Videos).
Wenn ich mir vorstelle, dass auch mein Dorfname in irgendeiner Sprache irgendetwas obszönes bedeuten könnte und irgendwann vor meiner Haustüre irgendwelche Affen auftauchen, die niemand eingeladen hat ...
Man kann von Pornhub halten, was man will. Aber, dass sich dieser Internetgigant am Schlechtergehen dieser Menschen bereichert (und es noch befeuert, denn weniger werden wird es ja nach dieser Aktion sicher nicht!) finde ich eine ziemlich miese Tour. Die "Bereitstellung eines kostenlosen Premium-Accounts" für die urige Bevölkerung von 50+ ist pure Verhöhnung.
"Respect Pornhub?" – nicht im geringsten.
"Bereicherung auf Kosten anderer?" – wohl eher.

Pornhub schafft es immer wieder die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zu ziehen. Ich erinnere mich an ihre versauten Bilderrätsel mit Smileys und Strichmännchen, wo man erstmal überlegen musste, was überhaupt gemeint ist.
