WORLDS HARDEST WOOD IRON BARK...Watch me cut this tough guy down to size.

Iron Bark is the best wood to use for a pole barn. Its strong, pest resistant and will outlast my grand kids. This wood is so hard you need to drill a pilot hole before you can bang in a nail.

I only have about 50 more of these to cut down to build my pole barn

The measure of hardness and strength is pounds-force (lbf). An ironwood tree that is native to Australia, this wood comes from a species of tree occurring across most of Eastern and Southern Australia. Known as the hardest wood in the world, this particular type has a Janka hardness of 5,060 lbf.

I've felled a few hardwoods in my time here in Indiana, and I could tell that iron bark was fighting you tooth and nail, especially so since you say you were using a carbide cut chain. Kudos on hitting your mark, well-done.

lol cheers.. you will see soon the monster I have to bring down...it's a 100+ year old standing dead . Its so hard a pick axe bounces of it when I hit it with the pointy end.

I thought BRAZILIAN WALNUT (IPE) was the hardest but it's only 3684 on the Janka. Man thats crazy. Bet you go through the chains fast from sharpening. Guess this stuff has IPE beat by a long shot.

crazy hard..lol you hit the nail on the head there...I use a carbide chain it last 10 times longer but you have to get it sharpend at the shop.

Some tough timber that ironbark

This is excellent mate. Ironbark certainly is a mongrel to workwith, but it makes brilliant fire wood, and great furniture. So long as your house is strong enough to hold it HAHAH

lol sooo true...note to self ...do not buy a Queenslander house

Are you in QLD mate? I'd love to get some peices to try turn a bowl, or some coffee tables with it.

Yep moved of here 2 years ago from Perth to buy the block. Think we might be able to work something out on the wood

Cool mate.
I'm up near Bribie island.

I'm down in Logan. If your willing to pick it up i can get you all you like. You have an email or something so i can contact you and arrange the details ? I think it would be cool to see you make a video of you making something out of the Iron bark

Hi Mate.

My email is [email protected]

I'll certainly do a video of it. Not many people do muc with Iron Bark and its way too hard work.
