So I spent the other night in London learning about the new Hertzstück sensor with @basf_global and the first thing I have to say is that I was hugely impressed. This new technology will enable us to examine our food in seconds, telling us exactly what ingredients are inside without compromising it in any way.
That means that we'll be able to identify if something is vegan / non-vegan, if something is out of date and the fat percentages of it - even through packaging. The coolest thing is that we got to try it out and the prototype already works!
A few of you have asked me already but unfortunately it's not available yet. It will however be available for industrial use in 2019 and is projected to be into handheld devices such as smartphones by 2022.
If you've ever been travelling through certain places and wondered what might be in your food well... now you'll be able to know for sure.
The implications for this are huge – also beyond food, like checking whether a cosmetic product really does moisturize your skin, measuring the ingredients of medicine or differentiating between textiles (just think about a polyester scarf that is labelled as silk). Glad I got to see how it will work first-hand!

That's great, this will really help people with food allergies.
Thanks for the info, didn't know smth like this existing. Maybe you know.. Is there plans of such a portable sensor? Would like to have one in my pocket :)
