We need to be extorted, kidnapped, caged or killed for window tint, seat belt violations, license plate lights, and possessing a plant? As long as society grants a group of people special rights to legally steal and harm otherwise entirely innocent people, militarization is as inevitable as the tide. The answer to security most definitely does not lie in the state which owes its very existence to the monopoly it holds on violence.
"The individual has a soul, but as the State is a soulless machine, it can never be weaned from violence to which it owes its very existence."
I agree with your premise, just not the solution.
Once upon a time, the police's motto was "To protect and serve" and that's what they did. It was an honorable profession.
We need to bring law enforcement back to being public servants instead of extortionists.

Keep hanging out on steemit long enough and you will come to this realization as well :) Peace!
