Spinning Wheel

in #life7 years ago

My oldest daughter has wanted to learn to spin yarn every since she was a little girl. A few years ago we bought her a drop spindle and she enjoyed it. She was recently given a homemade spinning wheel to get her started and she is ELATED. Now we need to find someone local-ish to teach her how to use it. Anyone in Central Kentucky know how to spin?

@arcticgarden suggested I share a picture of the spinning wheel so that I could help get direction on how to use it. Thanks @arcticgarden for your help. :)

This is on my list of things to learn to do. What a great blessing to be gifted this!

I have three spinning wheels a Saxony wheel built in the early 1800's, and two Ashford Traditional wheels one from 1972 and another one that is less than 10 years old.
Although your daughters wheel is on the modern side and has a yarn swift above it the spinning method is the same.
There are many videos on YouTube that can get her started.

Our girls might learn in the spring! I hope that it works out for you!

that looks like a bride price inflation gadget if Ive ever seen one! :-p

Does the band from the wheel go over the flyer or over the bobbin? I got straight into sherlock-mode! I think it looks great! You got a very handy lazy kate on the side too. I'm just happy to help!

That is so cool looking! I've wanted to learn to spin too, for quite some time. I'd also be interested in the specs on how to build that spinning wheel, if you have them or know where we could get them?
