A Rickity Raft Through The Lost World

The latest addition to the loot bag (an umbrella) could not have been better timed.
Walk to the train..... raining, wait for the bus..... raining, wait for a rickshaw....raining, arrival to the shores....... raining, but what's this? a clearing?.... no raining!.

We didn't come half way around the world to be defeated by a little water! a strategic hop here and a not so stylish leap there and that umbrella saw more action than my chin from a noodle bowl.
To the boats we go!

Like a wink from the vagabond spirits themselves, the rain let up as we waived farewell to the overly aggressive peanut vendor and set sail from Yangdi to Xingping on our makeshift bamboo raft (actually PVC pipe tied together).

The Lijiang River was a flurry of activity as we cruised the narrow passage on our motorized raft. The motor was humming, the chop was splashing and we were smiling, chuckling and soaking in the views of the mystical landscape.

The surrounding towers of white limestone topped with lush natural greenery through the light fog, reflected in the deep blue waters as though we'd been thrown into a fantasy novel just waiting for the fairies and elves to welcome us. The water buffalo swimming and grazing along the banks, eagles soaring overhead and fishermen collecting their bounties, our complete attention paid to the magnificent spectacle before us.

We passed boat after boat decorated in vibrant colors and styled with dragons and serpents all full of equally speechless photo snappers admiring the natural beauty before us.

We barely noticed overly excited yelling of our captain into his cell phone. Ahh the peaceful serenity of a day at sea......... it's Time2giver
