Hello all! For today, here's another illustration for one of @yahialababidi's beautiful poems, "Great Impatience". Give it a read, and while you're at it check out some of his other work!
Like much of his other work, @yahialababidi's poem is driven, pulsing, deliberate, and refreshingly written. Initially, I wanted to illustrate something equally serious and menacing, but my childish side got the better of me and I decided to channel a bit of humor and playfulness into the piece. After all, I do think that sometimes heaviness and authenticty go well with a pinch of comedy.
Below is the process:

Thanks, for the generous introduction, Teddy, and the levity. I think my poem needed a good tickle, and your playful illustration balanced it out, nicely.
It's almost like you got the poem to develop a sense of humor and smile at itself :)
Always interesting to take a look at the process and see how you arrived there...
Cheers,
Yahia
Thank you, Yahia! Glad you like the illustration, unexpected as it might have been ;) Great collaborating with you and getting a chance to read your work
I love your style! It's so unique yet almost eerily familiar. The contours are natural. I give it two thumbs up! :P
Thank you so much! Glad my style strikes a note with you haha :)
