4 Reasons Why You Should Read Books

Hey guys! How are you all?

Today, I want to talk about hobbies. Remember as a child, when you had a hobby and you really loved doing it? As we get older we get busier with our lives and a lot of us have to give up on them. All of us are different and so, we have different things we love doing. Some love to sing, some love to dance, some love to read books and so on. Many times, hobbies are also defined by our hidden talents.

Anyways, as I was saying, the busy life after college, when you start earning a living, means that there is barely any time left for these ‘extra’ things and we are often distracted by some other things like the internet or television shows and so, that guitar starts collecting dust at the corner of your room. But did you know, that having hobbies can be beneficial in your work as well as personal life? Of course, different hobbies have different benefits.

Today I wanted to talk a little bit about reading books. From my childhood, I have been interested in reading books. As a child, I used to love the stories that took me to an entirely different world. I favourite is fiction as I love to imagine the story in my head. Anyways, there are all sorts of books and we should all have a habit of reading them. Let me tell you 4 reasons why you should be reading a book daily.

1. Stress Reduction

As I implied before, today’s world is really stressful as we are all busy making a living or trying our best to make a great career or achieve our dreams. All this comes with a great deal of stress. Then you have your personal life as well, which can give you a lot of tensions too.

Reading books can help reduce your stress. When you are reading a story, for example, you get lost in that world and it helps your forget all your troubles, but more importantly, it stops you from overthinking things, which makes matters worse, as you are busy reading. I can’t tell you how many times I have diverted my mind of my troubles by plunging into a book. The sad thing is that most people do not even consider it as an option.

2. Perfect Pass Time

Before technology took over, people used to spend time outside or do other things in their free time. Nowadays, we are always staring at a screen, be it a computer or a smartphone. This means that we just don’t take full advantage of our time anymore. We are always ‘busy’ even if it is just scrolling our social media feed endlessly.

Reading books are a perfect pass time and in today’s screen filled world, I would say that it is in fact, necessary. If you have a habit of reading books, you will end up spending less time on your screen which is great for your eyes and also there is the fact that instead of wasting your time, you get to do something productive.

3. Makes You Knowledgeable

Geek is the new cool and if you are knowledgeable about things in general, your value automatically increases in the eyes of others. Also, in today’s world, knowledge or information is power and so the more you know, the greater your ability to make use of opportunities that come in your way.

Reading books are a perfect way to increase your knowledge. You can just pick books in the field you are interested, let’s say finance, and just read two or three great books written by credible authors and before you know it, you will have a lot of knowledge about that field, and if you do that for several areas of interest, you will be much knowledgeable than the average person.

4. Better Writing Skills

If you read regularly, your vocabulary will improve a great deal and you will learn different styles of writing from different writers. Also, you will automatically learn the proper use of grammar. All this can help you improving your writing skills as well and to be honest it is quite obvious that if you read a lot, you could also write better.

From reading, where you are absorbing some other people’s thoughts, to writing, where you are expressing your own thoughts and ideas, it is an incredibly interesting journey. This is something that I have done as well. There is also the fact that you can get inspiration from other writers’ work to write something epic of your own!

Great post! I really need to devote more time to this ...

I used to read a lot when I was in school. Hiding books inside my textbooks and used to pretend to be studying for school when I was in fact finishing LOTR. Hahah, such good times.

Very well put! I think it's really important to encourage more people to read on a regular basis. I'm still a uni student and therefore have quite a lot of time to read, but I do hope I will be able to make it a priority throughout the rest of my life as well! Don't think I could live without my books to be honest ;)

Upvoted. I'm going to resteem this now :)
