A quick guide to, how you can reduce cable visibility and add some light to your desk.
And a quick thanks to @carlosd15 for reminding me to do an update to my other post on "How to build your own $3k desk." I saw his post on how to remove the clutter of cables and it just reminded that I should do a post on that as well, since I did it to my desk :-)
The Supplies
Here are the supplies you will need to hide and hold down your cables:
To add some light, here's what I used:
- LED Light Strips
- Light strip brackets
- Splitter Adapter Cable
(In case you want to add LED Strips to same power supply)
To really hold down the LED light strip, you really want to use an light strip brackets. The LED strip comes with an adhesive, but it eventually starts to peal off. So securing it with a bracket is a good idea.
The Velcro tape is what I used to hold into place all the power strips and anything else that looked kinda heavy'ish. For most of the cables I used the cable straps. This really wasn't very hard to do.
Also, the wall looked kinda lonely, so I put a shelf up there and followed the same "Industrial" look I had done for the desk.
Nice setup!
Thanks!

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks Boooooossssteeeerrr!!!
I don't think I understand. Will you please bring the materials to my house and show me?
Haha! No problem. I'll show you step by step and then...waaaait a minute......
:-)
I really like the galvanized pipe usage - question: did you have the purchase the wheels separately ( just curious if you had to do anything special to attach the wheels to the pipe. The LEDs underneath the table is a good idea and it usually is an area that when you need to connect a cable or check if something came loose has the least light.
Thanks! I got the wheels from Amazon (3/4" Expanding Stem Caster with Brake) for $63. It has a black rubber that expands out as you tighten it to the pipe legs. This causes it to have a night tight fit. Now, the rubber wasn't 100% thick enough so I added some Duct tape and that worked out perfectly.
And yeah, I'm glad for those LED light strips. They dont use up a lot of energy and they brighten up my office. I want to add LED lights to the bookshelf above my desk as well.
