5 days ago I joined Steem. I was proud when I got 79 Upvotes and 29 comments because I wasn't really expecting to receive much attention although I thought it would be pretty sweet if I ended up with a thousand or more Steem dollars like I was seeing other users get.
I didn't receive thousands of Steem dollars though. Currently, that first introductory post I did is worth $5.97. This post isn't about the money that I made or didn't make. I haven't given up on writing posts, I still think it is possible to write the right post at the right time to the right audience. Does having a large following increase your chances of making more money? There doesn't seem to be a feed option available for viewing the users you follow...
I think there should be.
My post got flagged and because a user forgot to unflag me before the payout time. @Klye paid me $5 Steem dollars to say sorry. I was surprised by his generosity, for he is basically anonymous to me and wasn't in an obligation to pay me.
Yesterday I posted a picture of myself saying Roast me, basically because my boyfriend was looking through the funny but pretty mean roasts on Imgur.com and he was curious to see how people would respond on a site like this. I got 20 upvotes, 7 comments, and $0.16. This showed me that there weren't many mean-hearted people out there waiting to pounce on the weaker. 1 of the comments was pretty rude, but I guess it was just a harsher version of the reality of what I posted. In the photo, I was holding a sign over myself without a shirt, but my boyfriend made me take a photo to post right after I had finished breastfeeding my 5 month old daughter. Yeah I could've grabbed a shirt to put on but I just didn't care enough.
1 comment wasn't nice nor too rude, but a comment on the dislike of the way I write my 'e's.
1 comment pointed out the lack of attention Steemit users had on roasting me.
1 user called me beautiful... :)
1 person wrote, "I'd rather have you steemed than roasted." Clever ;)
& 1 person wished me luck to be more successful on Steemit than he/she has been.
In conclusion, my experience with Steemit has encouraged me to have hope in my future on here and I'm happy to work with the people on this site, many of whom put their time and heart into this site. Steemit is like a more intelligent, mindful, and empathetic version of Facebook. A version that allows it's users to be encouraged to write about things that matter. It helps to have an incentive to put out our best work. The incentive is not only to get the attention of other people and spread knowledge (like facebook)but to make money, hopefully enough to help pay the bills.
In a world where people exchange ideas to earn money, people can focus on what they are passionate about which is a much more useful task for the evolution of our species and the potential healing of the planet.
Thanks Steemit, I'm rooting for your evolution to benefit the lives of many.

I must have missed your introduction. Anyway, stick with it and I'm sure you will eventually hit a trending post. Or if not you can still gain followers over time (the news feed to view posts by those you follow is in the works).
p.s. your family is very photogenic :)
Awesome, so glad the news feed is coming. Thank you for you're encouragement. Best wishes to you!
Awesome post! Vastly enjoyed. Keep up the great writing!
