“Sunset is magnificent
but near dusk.”
The above quotation is a well known saying of an ancient Chinese poet. It implies that what is beautiful will soon pass away. It can also mean that we must seize the opportunity when it is still available.
This saying has somewhat reflected a pessimistic perspective about life. And often we can hear that the elderly and retirees are being referred to as people in their sunset years. If indeed they are in their sunset season, their glory is fading away.
Can we change the perspective that it will not be frightening for the senior citizens to move forward? In the creation account as found in the opening chapter of Genesis, the beginning and the end of each day is described as, “It was evening and it was morning...” This description reveals a pattern of life, which is from darkness to light, just like evening signifies darkness, whereas, morning is light.
Thus, the pattern given is a concept of time with each day commencing from darkness to light. Biologically, a baby is first formed inside a dark womb, then, the baby is delivered to be an individual exposing to the outside world at the end of pregnancy.
Likewise, someone in the sunset years during the dusk will move into light with the coming of dawn or the morning.
Therefore, the elderly should anticipate that they will move into light and even glory beyond their sunset years when they are able to move in tandem with the Creator’s design for their life, a uniquely better perspective of life, which is from darkness to light.

上述诗词来自诗人李商隐。这是対快要消失的美景的感慨，或许这种感嘆也是対身历其境者的提醒，人必须把握机会。必竟这话也带有一絲的消極人生态度。有时候老人和退休人仕被形容為曰落的羣体。如果他们巳经在黄昏階段，意思这些人将渐渐失去生命光茫。
我们能否能改变这种思维以致老人可以勇敢地邁向未来？
古老的创世纪首章形容每一天都是由晚上开始，即“有晚上有早晨...” 这种描述表示了生命的模式是由黑暗到光明。晚上象徵黑暗，而早上是光明。一个生命的形成始自母腹，胎儿在黑暗中，婴儿直到生產了才接觸到有陽光的世界。如此，身處曰落的一群，豈不也是可以期望曰出，进入光明什至榮耀呢！
如果老人能和上述的思维串联起来，配合生命的设计者，便要活得不负此生，带着希望邁向光彩的未来。
