Hi, interesting read! I learned a few things I was admittedly unaware of. " Mesolimivic rectification" for example.
I have a question though you mention that "...cocaine is a non-medicinal..." I take it to mean people are not using it that way? As there are clear medicinal uses for Cocaine use. Though they are rarely implemented.
As for the plant in general this is the point of pharma; monetize, synthesize and take a plant that has some great qualities and turn it into something potentially healing if used correctly, but it becomes easily and often abused. Leading to a deterioration in the society. That's my current viewpoint anyway maybe it will change thru the years.
Cocaine was an ingredient in Coca Cola a little over 100 years ago(random thought).
Things we tend to prohibit often become popular . I have no idea what the answer is. But i was always surprised at how people react to various drug campaigns. For example during the, or just after the, "Just Say No " campaign. Which was launched into the spotlight by Nancy Reagun in the U.S. in the 80s. That campaign pretty much backfired. At least among many of various circles I was in it was cool to do crack because it was in the media and its what "they did not want you to do.
Wish I knew the answer cause I know a few people's lives ruined by this, whether crack or regular coke...
