I am observing from many years that I am struggling on doing one thing at a time. A possible reason might be my job nature where I need to handle multiple tasks who are being assigned to multiple employees. I am struggling to overcome this from a couple of years but I am not able to master this part though I have gained some control over this.

It is more about the effect of the notifications like you are doing a task and you get a notification from your outlook that you have an email. You quickly jump to the outlook to see whose email is this and what is inside the email. This way what you did is you left what you were doing and started another task as that email might lead you to another link or problem where you need to pay more attention.

Same thing I feel while saying my prayer, rather than focusing on my prayer I keep thinking about the tasks that I have at my hand and should be completed by the end of the day. When I realize that I am not on the target I shake head again and focus on my prayer again. This might be due to my nature as when I say that it will be done today, it should be done that day. That is why I start enjoy the day i.e. after fulfilling my commitments. Due to responsibility, my mind keeps driving attention to the tasks at hand.

I am not sure if all of you have faced this problem or are facing this problem, but I have tried some hacks and I believe this can help you too. You can give these tips a try and see the magic of focus as a result. Following are my findings;

  1. Your email notifications should be delayed for 1 hour or 30 mins i.e. you outlook should refresh after 1 hour or 30 mins so that you can finish what you have at hand with ease.

  2. Your email must be opt out of all useless newsletter and subscription that you bought in the past or they made your email a part of the list they have for email marketing.

  3. You must have a calm and noiseless environment so that you can apply the magic of focus without getting disturbed.

  4. Never install social applications on your mobile phone always use them on desktop or laptop after your work, otherwise, they will eat your battery plus your brain performance.

  5. Use Whatsapp wisely, never be part of the group who are there just for fun or enjoy or if you have a likeness for these sort of groups mute them so that you can enjoy the stuff they are sending after your work time.

  6. Set a schedule, prioritize your tasks and start from the most important one otherwise your mind keeps you alarming about the important one while you are doing the less important one as compared to that one.

  7. Keep good quality tools that you use at your work if you are a freelancer your tools are going to be a laptop, cell phone, handsfree, tab, pen, pad, USB, internet, etc. If your tools are not good you will not be able to deliver quality work and due to the average or poor performance of the tools, it will be hard to focus on the task.

This is just a timely piece.. And all you experience are my experiences too. It sometimes takes a lot to get my mind to focus on one task, especially when I have many brain tasks to perform..

Sometimes what I do is play a calm music and start singing along, then I can finish what's at hand in no time. If it's about writing, I just shut my eyes and meditate on what's distracting me, figure it out in my mind, then my head gets cleared for what I need to write about..

I'll practice the other suggestions you listed.

Great, thanks for sharing music and meditation. I need to try these and check if this is going to make the difference like it is making in your case :)

I am the same way.
I meditate every morning as part of my daily routine and I often catch myself thinking of things that aren’t related to the here and now of my meditation.
Great tips. I have turned off all notifications from my phone and so I never know if I have received a message or a text unless I open the app. It’s worked wonders for me ^^

Indeed you are steeming it your way, good to know that it was helpful :)

awww haha glad to know you like my show name 😉

I am touched and honoured. Thank you and please keep up the good work my friend. Steemit is a better place with people like yourself here :-)

Thanks for the motivation buddy, you are amazing :)

There are many ways to do it differently. If you switch off notifications, it doesn't matter where you installed the apps, and for the most of time, you don't need bloody notifications except if you are paramedic or work in nuclear plant maintenance team.

What you get by delaying e-mail not's for an hour and a half if they are flowing in continuously? You just get them at dinner time?!

Why you need a good smartphone or laptop? What is good? You can do the majority except for very particular things with budget stuff.

When I read your post, sincere effort is noticeable, but I feel you don't like your job much. I may be wrong, but that's what I feel from your words...

Well said buddy, thanks for detailed feedback.

A good laptop or smartphone doesn't mean expense, I was trying to mention performance here.
I like my job buddy, I was trying to share how to improve productivity on tasks. I will try better to explain next time :)

Focus is definitely super important. Focus doesn't waste time or energy.

One line and you said it all, "Focus doesn't waste time or energy".

Congratulations @uio!
