I AM VERY SHY. WHAT DO I DO TO STOP BEING LIKE THAT HEEELP?

SITUATION
I'm 18 and I'm more alone than an old man in a nursing home. Although at least they have more people to get together. The fact is that if I continue like this I will die a virgin lol. Every weekend I stay at home. I do not have friends because of the insecurity and lack of self-esteem, I'm not pretty, but not so ugly either. I don’t want to go on like this. Tips?

ADVICE
Feelings of insecurity are very common at your age. However, they can become much more noticeable as you grow. To overcome your low self-esteem, you must first be totally honest with yourself. It is very likely that many of the things you say you would like to do, in reality, you would not like to do them, and you are only feeling guilty because others do them. Maybe deep down you like to stay at home on weekends and that's why you have not tried to go out with a friend. Honesty is the first step to solve any problem. Once you are honest with yourself you must love and respect yourself as you are.

On the other hand, if in fact if you would like to go out on the weekend and you have not invited anyone or you have not joined a group of friends, it means that you are afraid. That fear that you feel is a signal from your body that tells you to flee the situation or face it. Inviting someone to go out, or join a group of friends, is not a situation that puts you in immediate danger. Therefore, you must face this situation to overcome it. Facing your fears is the only way to overcome them to live another reality, if you do not, you will be trapped in a mental loop in which you will be resentful with society little by little. This can limit your opportunities for fun and future happiness.

One way to face you fears is to know that all people go through this situation. Some face them in their social lives, others face them in their professional lives, and others in their personal lives. Sooner or later, people have to face different types of fear. This means that you are not alone. Likewise, try not to get distracted by the negative feelings that this situation causes in your life because, while you are wishing for what others have, you are missing out on all the positive things that have come into your life. While you get distracted wanting to be like others you are missing out on the fabulous person you are.
