The same thing happened to me. It wasn't until March that @lighteye made it clear to me that the journals, which I had formerly held in high regard, like JAMA and the NEJM, were lying. Things clicked, and I realized the horrific videos out of China of people keeling over dead in the street, blood streaming from their mouth, nose, eyes, and ears, were terrorism, fake news, and blatantly lies.
I am to this day embarrassed I fell for it to begin with.
As to your theories why they did it, all of my speculations are far worse than any you put forward. Those are rookie reasons. The real reasons are all far more awful and evil than that. The DOD didn't actually originate this plan, although they're all in. The spooks did. The spooks have taken over government, but only so they can destroy it for their bankster buddies. The global totalitarian technocratic tyranny can't militarily conquer all the countries of the world, so they are causing all of them to suicide themselves, and then all they have to do is pick up the pieces and offer the starving survivors CBDC UBI bugpods in 15 minute prisons, err.. cities.
Sex slaves don't grow on trees, and waifu bots aren't up to snuff yet, as we can see from Bing being lobotomized. Spooks have no compunctions about sex trafficking, as is obvious from Epstein. The reason we don't have the list and proof of their crimes is because as long as it's secret, it's still useful as blackmail.

These thoughts have certainly crossed my mind as well. They all cooperate but they are ultimately on separate teams though. As you and I have discussed before, even people in the inner circles of power are often at odds with each other and trying to gain power at the expense of their co-conspirators. I consider the clandestine services to be a part of the military, and ultimately the militaries of the world would like nothing more than to draw us all into perpetual wars. That's the very reason they exist. Without war they'd be nothing. Thus the motivation to stress test their defense systems. I still think there's something they're afraid of that they don't have control over too. They nearly killed us all in the the response to COVID, themselves included. I just can't see them behaving that way unless they're scared of something. I also know it's definitely not COVID-19 they were afraid of.
I think what they're afraid of is us. Decentralization eliminates parasitic losses, and their wealth and power is solely derived from parasitizing collective production. Centralization cannot compete, and it's really only a matter of time until adoption of means of production by individual households starves overlords of their wealth.
Actual psychopaths won't let that happen while they live.
Edit: I've given this a lot of thought, and it occurs to me that loosing a deadly virus on the world is just as dangerous to overlords as it is to plebs. SARS2 turns out to not be very dangerous at all, and it seems most of the flu cases in 2021 were missascribed to Covid19. The jabs, however, have proved to already be more lethal than Covid19, and we're not even close to finding out just how lethal they are. While overlords might not be able to avoid the flu, they can sure not get the jab.
Using Covid19 and terrorism to drive plebs to get the jabs then deploys the bioweapon on the intended target - us - without potentially afflicting them - whoever is giving Gates, Fauci, Pfizer, and the WEF their marching orders, that had the power to get all the countries of the world to march in lockstop and lock us down claiming medical necessity, without any medical justification whatsoever.
