I have decided to add meditation to my daily list of habits. After a bit of research online this is what i have learned about meditation and why we should all be doing it on a regular basis.
There are countless studies that have shown meditation can positively impact both your mental and physical health. It can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve your sleep and increase your mental focus. All this sounds pretty good to me.
I should mention, that to experience these benefits of meditation, regular practice is necessary and it only takes a few minutes every day. In a short amount of time it will become a daily routine and possibly the best part of your day.
Now if you are thinking i can't meditate because i am not a Zen master or a Buddhist monk, then i am happy to say that is wrong. Everyone can learn how to meditate. It's easy to do and it only takes a few simple steps:
- Sit in a comfortable chair or you can lie down if you prefer.
- Close your eyes.
- Focus your attention on the breath and notice the movement of your body as you breathe in and out.
- Don't try to control your breath; just simply breathe naturally.
- If you mind starts to wander and random thoughts pop into your mind, simply return your focus back to your breath.
- Maintain this meditation practice for two to three minutes to start with, and when you feel more comfortable with the practice you can try for longer periods.
That's all there is to it. Doesn't sound too hard now? I suggest you give it a try, you might actually enjoy it.
