A Blueprint - 1

in #life6 years ago

The following is an excerpt from Confessions of the Damaged, a loosely fit novel about a place called the Village and the invisible strings that tie everything together, a rhythm that can be found in anything. "A Blueprint" is the connective tissue which holds this collection of short stories together. The events take place concurrently with those of the other stories and each part is rather short, like a snapshot image. The rough draft was posted on steemit a long time ago. A Blueprint - 1

A dark road lay cast ahead, the old buildings on either side were all deep in slumber as if they had been vacant indefinitely. The utter stillness produced a timeless ambiance, which imposed its gravity upon all movement, inviting all to fall into a state of suspended animation. Still, everything was full of life, a consciousness which defied all scientific explanation.

The street lamps cast abstract patterns across the unmarked alleyways, shadows, maps from other realms. Silence permeated every corner and yet, it wasn't true silence. Objects reflected what little light could pass through the density in the air and gave off a distinct set of sounds, like a hum or a buzz. The buzz grew louder and louder until it encompasses everything.

She stumbled into a dream.

A moment ago she had known where she was headed but at some point between then and now everything had been turned on its head. These were not the same streets she had been walking a moment ago. And yet they were.

She knew that in a sense this was the very same street she had walked so many times before, but the settings had been played with. The brown building on the corner was blue and furnished with more traditional decoration. The one next to it was an empty lot. Across the street was a shopping mall under construction. The road forked at a slightly different angle than the one she was used to.

She was seeing another version of the same street. She wondered, for a moment, if it was a past image, but very quickly realized that it was not. The shopping mall had not existed before, and could potentially exist in the future, while some old houses belonged to a time long ago...

She had stepped out of time entirely.

Blundering outside of time would be slightly unsettling. Though possibly fun and interesting if you could still do things at least mostly normally :)

I think this had 2 readers total and both were you! Thank you for that <3 , I wonder how I can get people reading my fiction!

Getting stuck outside time is really fun for what feels like a little while!

At least one would have been Cinvent XD

Ahh the eternal question. Well as you know groups is probably the easiest way :)

Will there be a followup to what happens with this character or are we left eternally wondering? :D

I'll post it on patreon if not here, which reminds me, I really need to update my Patreon! New story this week! :-D Good good

Yay for new stories!

Yeh I have to do the update Patreon thing at some stage too x_x
