Not everyone stands infront of the mirror and practice smiling but most people try to smile while taking a picture. Why do you feel you need to smile while taking a photo?
What is smile?
According to Oxford dictionary, smile is a facial expression comprised by flexing the muscles of both ends of one's mouth while showing the front teeth without vocalisation. Smile is an involuntary or voluntary expression of happiness, pleasure, amusement or anxiety.
Mother Theresa once said, "we shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do". Smile isn't unfamiliar. We started smiling as babies and as adults we understand that smiling feels good. Although we live in a world full of problems where you either wake up on the wrong side of the bed, pick a fight with your loved one, struggle through a terrible traffic or have to deal with an annoying world. This doesn't mean that we still can't find a reason to smile. It is true that it can be a tough talk to plaster smile across your face when you are gloomy but when you smile, you naturally cultivate positive thinking at the same time.
Smiling can be a conscious and powerful choice because it elevates your mood. There is just one trick to make smiling work for you. Just smile the right way. A genuine smile is known as "Duchenne smile". It uses all the muscles in the face including the laugh lines. Our facial expressions do more than communicate our current mood. Emotions may originate in the brain but the muscles in the face either reinforce or transform those feelings.
Unfortunately, most of us do not smile enough. We are moody, angry and engrossed in our own personal lives that we forget that there are many things we ought to be grateful and thankful for.
WHY SHOULD WE SMILE?
1.Smiling makes you more creative. Smiling gives you a more comprehensive approach to problems, improves your ability to think of more solutions than someone who is frowning. Researchers have connected this to the release of dopamine triggered by happiness since the neurotransmitter is involved in learning, processing and decision making. If you are a creative person, you know you can't come up with something when you are down in the dumps.
Smiling makes one look attractive. Have you ever stood in front of the mirror and smiled and watched the face in the mirror smiling back at you? How do you feel? This is why people smile while taking pictures, to look good. Seeing someone smile builds up positive energy in our minds. There is a really physical attraction factor linked to the act of smiling. A smile speaks for itself. If you smile more, chances are you will attract more potential suitors who find themselves drawn to you.
Smiling improves your immune system. During a smile, white blood cells are released by the body more than usual. White Blood Cells are responsible for fighting against diseases and foreign bodies. Smiling helps you maintain a good physical and mental health.
Smiling makes you happy. When we smile, the brain releases endorphins which lowers stress and improves our overall mood. Whenever you are sulky, try a little smile and watch your mood get lifted. Smiling tricks the brain into helping you elevate your mood because the physical act of smiling actually activated neural messaging in your brain. You don't have to smile only during pleasant situations. Think of smile as a natural anti-depressant.
Smiling is contagious. It is an involuntary act. I am sure you have fond yourself smiling back when someone smiles at you even a stranger sometimes. The part of the brain that is responsible for controlling the facial expression of smiling is an automatic response area. Smiling is a language understood by all.
Smiling relieves stress. When we are stressed, it shows on our face and we look worn out, tired and overwhelmed. Smiling helps reduce this stress it causes the brain to release endorphins that lowers stress.
Smiling lowers blood pressure. When we smile, the body recognises that there is an absence of threat and relaxes thereby slowing down heart rate and tramping down the production of stress hormones thereby reducing blood pressure and boosting overall health.
Smiling makes you look younger. Smiling makes use of the facial muscles. When we smile, the muscles are lifted thereby lifting up the face giving us a more attractive and a more youthful look.

Smiling is free. You don't have to buy it. It is natural. It is free and it is beautiful.

Smiling costs nothing, but it is beyond price.
But the smile that counts is the one borne out of joy and not just happiness (happiness is situational, but joy is without recourse to the prevailing circumstance - it is from the heart)
Nice piece
What a beautiful input. I particularly like how you distinguished between joy and happiness. Joy indeed is from within. Thanks so much @samminator. Love you darling.
Smile also bring people around you want associate, talk and relate with you because every body wants to be of happiness.
