Les Brown - My Favorite Motivational Speaker: -Challenge your fears Speech-, and how it made me realize I wasn't living.
Decide you are going to take some chances. Decide you are willing to risk. If you are not willing to risk. You can't grow in life. Life has no power when you are not willing to risk. To laugh is to risk appearing the fool. To wheep is to risk appearing sentimental. To reach out for another is to risk involvement. To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true-self. To place your ideas, your dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return. To live is to risk dying, to hope is to risk despair, to try, is to risk failure. But risk must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. the person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they cannot - Learn, - Feel, -Change, -Grow, -Love, and -Live. - Chained by their servitudes, they are a slave. - They have forfeited their freedom, only a person who risks... is free... -
What I'd like to add
So go ... risk ... what are ... you waiting for. More spaces between the words, maybe I should separate the letters also.
There is no right time, it will never sound perfect, you will never be ready. I will (blog) type wrong, I will use wrong
spacing, I will miss-spell.
When I leave the house I will embarrass myself because I have this terrible social anxiety that I have not been able
to shake-off since the beginning of time. But what I won't do, is forfeit my freedom to be myself. I may not feel good
about my social skills, I may stumble, and fall. Skills I may lack, lesser I may appear. Many a time I will be judged
(usually by those with nothing better to do, or too much time on their hands). But I will be myself once and for all,
a beautiful mess. The - willingness to risk is the beautiful part. The - can't get my words out and nervous demeanor is the mess.
Together they are me.
And that's okay now, I've made peace with who I am. I choose to clumsily challenge my fears daily.
Will you do the same?... It won't be easy but it is just a choice. Choose to be free.
