RE: Sitting is the New Smoking? My Experience with Standing Desks - Home Business Essentials

in #lifehack8 years ago (edited)

In 2014 I had major issues with sporadic pain in one leg from to many years of sitting from long periods of time. My hip flexors were so tight I had no mobility at all. Even though I was also very active in the gym and had issues.
I went on a research binge to find a solution and found that a standup desk might fix it or at least help it. The problem I had was I had always been accustomed to a multiple monitor setup, and from my research the wider the desk and the higher you lift the worst the wobble becomes.

Video for it here

So the base was perfect but the next problem I faced was the actual table top, their wasn’t anything that suited the size, and having a custom one made was very expensive. I ended up finding 3 old school library desks for sale for $20.00 that were a perfect size of 6 foot long and 3 foot wide. The desks were rough as hell with old chewing gum stuck everywhere underneath obviously from students stashing the gum. So I removed all the gum sanded them down and re painted. You can see in this photo

I have my 2 27” and 1 x 24’ and a 17’ laptop sitting on their no problem, also when I have the desk up there is no wobble at all it is perfectly stable. So if you like the space on a desk and want a solid solution this is the one. I have had it for over 2 years and haven’t had one issue. And the best thing is I don’t have any pain anymore in my leg. I try to standup every hour for about 10-15 minutes and sometimes I even forget I am standing and it becomes a lot longer. Standing up is also a great way to help reduce weight because your metabolic rate is higher
I ended up finding this http://www.ergoprise.com/uprise-height-adjustable-desk-base/ Anyway thanks @cryptooctopus for the post I hope more users can use all this info to help them if they have similar issues.

that's awesome dude! I'm super happy not to be the only one who's seen incredible benefits from it. :-)

Mate, in all honesty, i think if I hadn't evolved to using this I would have had a hip replacement, lol...no but joking aside if I had known about the benefits from the beginning it would have saved a shit load on painkillers:)
