My daughter came to me the other day and said "Daddy lets make some cookies!" Of course I'm on board with that. We looked in the cabinets to see what we had and decided on oatmeal raisin. We began to measure out ingredients and combine this lumpy mess of what's supposed to be batter.
In this moment I realized that its not very pretty, much like most of our lives. What i neglected to tell you is that my 16 yr old daughter is about to bless us with a grand-daughter!
As we continued to add oatmeal and raisins to our concoction I knew that these would be the greatest cookies ever made! Because even though we didnt exactly follow the instructions to a tee, we made them with reason and purpose. ( We wanted a sweet treat and knew that these would satisfy the craving )
Everything was mixed and ready to bake. We had reached the point of no return. We laid spoonfuls of batter on 2 cookie sheets and baked them to perfection! Mission accomplished.
Moral of the story is this. I never thought that at 38 I'd be a grand parent. Just like the batter in the beginning, sometimes our lives get messy and lumpy. We dont always follow the right instructions and often times we add some extra or leave out to little. We dont have to be perfect, we just have to keep going!
I was reminded that we too are made with reason and purpose. Love the times we get to bake and talk. And yes.....the cookies are AMAZING!
I wasn't ready at the age of 49 which felt too "young" to be called "grampy".....4 more later wouldn't trade it for the world....granted your situation is more complicated with such a young mother....
Wonderful analogy....glad you are able to find the silver lining in the cloud...the best to you and your daughter and the exciting future....grandma!

This is such a great post, filled with wisdom. The cookies look delicious. Blessings to your growing family.
This is a good reminder, any day. :)
Thank you @katrina-ariel. I have been dealt my fair share of obstacles for sure, just as many others have. I was fortunate to have a wonderful upbringing that taught me to be open minded, loving, caring and optimistic.
