Counting Reps by binary 8's instead of 10s

in #lifestyle7 years ago

The 1-2, 1-2 timing of a simple binary rhythm..

I love doing reps.. whether i'm doing situps, working with dumbbells or any other type of repetitive motion at all. I listen to my own natural inner rhythm which as musicians know can be as simple as 1-2, 1-2 and again a 1-2, 1-2. That completes one measure of 8 beats... eight reps in this case. Real simple.

And the rhythm swings. For real.

Counting by 10s is... well it's just not happening. Having to recite verbally or mentally 10 consecutive distinct words - in a memorized order - what a drag. Borrrrr-rrring!

So counting by 2's in double pairs.. gives us 8 to a measure before we repeat to a 16 count. Now your halfway through the 4-line "verse".

Another measure and it's 24 until a fourth measure completes the verse at 32 total reps.

So we really counted by 8's... using the pairs of 2's to guide us efficiently.

Forgoing 1 through 10 in this way is quite liberating.

No longer having to mentally see those numbers make there way through your mind on a conveyer belt as you exercise frees up a lot of energy. This way you can focus more on your form and technique.

Rather than "seeing" numbers as we count, we can simply FEEL the 1-2, 1-2... and after some practice you'll notice that your subconscious mind can actually count the pairs for you effortlessly. Even if you are not a musician, you are still tuned to this fundamental principal.
