eBook review
In his book Timothy Ferriss asked the most influent or famous people in different fields (arts, science, lifestyle etc.) this 11 questions:
- What is the book (or books) you’ve given most as a gift, and why? Or what are one to three books that have greatly influenced your life?
- What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last six months (or in recent memory)? My fans love specifics like brand and model.
- How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? Do you have a “favorite failure” of yours?
- If you could have one gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it—metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions—what would it say and why? It could be a few words or a paragraph.
- What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made?
- What is an unusual habit or an absurd thing that you love?
- In the last five years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life?
- What advice would you give to a smart, driven college student about to enter the “real world”? What advice should they ignore?
- What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?
- In the last five years, what have you become better at saying no to (distractions, invitations, etc.)? What new realizations and/or approaches helped?
- When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do?
Ferriss gives a short biography of every interviewed person. He collected the answers to these questions and put them together in an eBook. He wants to show, that with the right questions you can find out important aspects about the personality of a person.
Pros:
The questions were given to a large and diverse group, which makes the answers more enriching.
The questions were interesting, because they are deeper than they seem and give an overview of the people’s asked personality.
Cons:
The title “Tribe of mentors “gives the impression, that the book includes only self-made people who succeed out of their own efforts. But Ferriss asked even some famous people, that found theirselves in the right place at the right time. If those people are really made for talking about self-development, is questionable. The word mentor makes think at people, who can contribute to life advices because of their experiences.
For Whom:
For anyone interested in self-development and life advices.
