Chinese airline’s gorgeous new attire shines fashion world
A Chinese airline made a splash this week for elevating the fashion of its cabin crew to the next level, after it debuted its stylish new range of air host and hostess uniforms at Paris Couture Week.
The new attire, which looks more like something gracing the cover of a fashion magazine than a work uniform, will be provided to crew members of Hainan Airlines, the largest private air transport company in China.
Designed by Chinese designer Laurence Xu, the uniforms have the combined elements of “classical, time-honored Oriental aesthetics and the silhouette of a modern Western suit”.
The graceful overcoat for female employees is reminiscent of Hogwarts attire, while the one-piece dress repurposes the traditional Chinese cheongsam and adopts other Chinese elements like cloud drawings, waves and even a Chinese mythical bird.
The male version is a bit less extravagant and more Western in style, with a double-breasted overcoat and some smaller elements of traditional Chinese culture.
The company is looking far beyond becoming a new fashion icon at 35,000 feet. “We are not only creating a new uniform but also showing the internationalized image of our airline,” said Xu Fei, brand director of Hainan Airlines. “Especially on international routes, we would like to let passengers know that China is modern and trendy.”
