The way of life of people in Nigeria varies from other countries same with educational career (Culture)
My late eighteenth (18) years, I had the inspiration of becoming a computer scientist which stair me up to study, partake in schools competition so as to have the forefront of my aspirations in life. During the process, I took my first JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board), this is a Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary education. The are responsible for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for prospective undergraduate in the universities. After which I wrote the examination, I obtained a JAMB score of 198 as my aggregate which was not up to my departmental cut off mark, but to meet up to my goals of being a computer scientist, I didn't relent my efforts, let go of my goals, nor felt discouraged. I quickly change my choice of institution to College of education Akamkpa, where I was admitted to study computer science combining mathematics as a discipline under the faculty of science education. I was so happy, went on paying the acceptance fee and begin lectures.
Challenges I faced while schooling
On the long run to achieve my academic pursue, it wasn't easy, but was stressful and hectic which I never thought of having such an experienced. At this point I grew up to know that "experience is the best teacher".
Firstly, the issue of locating lecture halls was paramount and distractive been my first entrance into higher institution. Initially I could attend three (3) classes out of five in a day for couples of weeks because, I wasn't able to locate my halls. To overcome this challenge I had to make friends with my seniors colleagues so I can be directed and coached on the ethics of the school which I offered a great gratitude to them
Secondly, the issue of summiting files in different offices got me stressed out due to so many departments in school such as the Bursary, the exams and record, the students affairs, and to my head of department. It took me couple of days to carry out the processes which at last, I conquer it.
Thirdly, the issue of buying test books and handout was also a disturbance to my educational pursue due to lack of finances. To sum it all,i have encountered so many challenges such as peer group influence, keeping bad companies, indecent way of dressing, truancy to mention but a few. Since I knew goals and stated aims, i refuses to allowed myself to be lured.
Last month been the 14th of November 2024, I graduated as a computer scientist with my learned colleagues
As our culture entails in school, we carry out a program called "signing out", where the graduates have to put on white t-shirt or shirt to be signed on by fellow student, lecturers, non teaching staff, and well wishers for a successful win in the labour market.
Today, I am a graduate not that am smart or handsome, but because of my long stated goal which I needed to achieved, with my seriousness and God by my side I won.
