Step By Step Link Building for a new Website

in #linkbuilding8 years ago

First things first.

==1.Keyword selection==

Note: this advice may fly in
face of what you've been taught before

You can follow other ideas about
choosing keywords if you like.

The link building strategies
below will still apply.

But know that this keyword selection method
is tried and tested advice based on
over 12 years experience.

And it's simple. Which is important
as SEO can get complicated real fast.

So.

Choose one single keyword term.

That's right. Just one.

Make it as competitive as you like.

But don't make it so specific that there's
no room to choose around 4 or 5 secondary
keywords related to your main one.

example of primary and secondary keywords would be:

Primary term - "dog training"

Secondary terms - "dog training advice"
"dog training techniques"
"dog aggression training"
"dog training tools"
"dog toilet training"

Notice how they are all in the same
"theme" of training dogs -- Important.

Next thing you do is create your site.

The goal is to end up with between
20 and 40 pages of unique content (articles).

Also, this may be obvious but I want
to make sure that your content is related
to the 'theme' of your main keyword.

But don't be afraid of creating content
based on longer-tail (and less searched for)
keywords. As long as they are related to your "theme".

==2. Start building Links==

In this order:

  1. Auto posting. 'Set and forget'
    Set up accounts to automatically
post to Twitter, Facebook, social bookmarking sites,
    and RSS distribution sites.

Wordpress has several good plug-ins for this,
and for social bookmarking try OnlyWire.com.

Once set up you'll get new links
for every piece of new content you put up.

  1. Directory submissions. 'One off'
    Can be time consuming.

So consider outsourcing your submissions
for $15 to $200 and getting submitted
to a host of directories over the internet.

Choose directories that have to confirm submissions,
as these are the ones that Google likes most.

  1. Targeted linking campaign. 'Priority'

Create a list of the top 10-30 sites for each of your keywords.
Put them in a spreadsheet.

Look to approach each of these to get links.

These will be the most valuable links you can get.
Because they are relevant to your theme.

It might be you have to submit a guest blog or article...

Or - you might have to make an amazing piece of content
(infographic, video etc).

Point is. Get creative if you need to,
as these links are going to have
the biggest impact on your rankings.

  1. Article marketing. 'Ongoing process'
Set up a schedule to get content created.
    Either write yourself or outsource.
Two articles per day is good if you're outsourcing
(One for the site, and one for distribution
    to directories such as ezinearticles.com).

  2. Blog commenting. 'Ongoing'
    Set up outsourcers (elance.com, odesk.com
    or freelancer.com are good options)
to produce 5 comments per day.

You could do this yourself, but you only
have so much time in the day.

Better to spend that getting better
quality links such as in point #3 above.

Focus on sites with a high PR (2+)
and a low amount of comments (less than 30).

Once all the above is set up you're well on your way.

Simple huh? It is.

Unless you make it unnecessarily complex.

The key is to set up your plan.
And then follow it.
The more you can outsource the better.

After 2-4 weeks.
Check what terms you are ranking for.
Use Traffic Travis to make it easy.

You may find you're ranking
for terms you didn't even plan on.

So take advantage of this.

Make sure to put some focus on these terms
when you're adding new content and building links.

There you go. A simple plan for getting
links to your site. It works.

The secret ingredient is putting it into action.

Many people (maybe even you) will probably ask:

"How many links should I built to each keyword?"

When building links.

A good rule of thumb is for 5-10% of them
to focus on your main keyword term.
And link to your main page.

In our example 'dog training'.

The remaining 95-90% should be spread between
your URL and other related keywords.

You only need a small amount of exact-match anchor texts.

Does that make sense? It is really simple.

All you need to do is...

Take action.
