Oh, hi, didn't see you there.
This is Cat Treats, a fairly short post where i point at a few things on the internet that i think are neat or useful and say some things about them and maybe you check them out if you want.
In this episode:
living pixel art
endless acid tunes
global audio
colors
gibberish
Let's go!
NB: i am not affiliated with any person, group, or company in the following links. Divider bar image is made by me. Screenshots are taken by me of the sites linked at the time of this post.
First up we have Living Worlds in HTML5, a beautiful and interactive rendition of artwork by Mark Ferrari, an artist involved in the games Loom, The Secret of Monkey Island, and Thimbleweed Park.1
This HTML5 demo can switch scenes, change time of day, adjust the animation speed, and more. Living Worlds is also available as an Android or iOS app, with live wallpaper for the Android app.
For more information, including links to the apps if you want, see here.
I love the aesthetic in this art and the animation effects are mesmerizing to me.
(this scene is animated in the demo)
How about The Endless Acid Banger (by Vitling), a neat interactive music thing, generating a nonstop tune with a randomized algorithm. It approximates a 909 and two 303's for the audio source. You can interact with it, if you'd like more control over things or let the Autopilot do its thing, put the tab in the background, and go along for the ride. This thing makes some solid jams.
The source code is also available if you're into that sort of thing!
(this reminds me of demoscene music. It's not exactly the same but it reminds me.)
Maybe you'd like to listen to radio from around the world? Ever wonder what's on the radio in Mongolia? Search or move the globe, zoom in and out, find radio stations (and even some air traffic control stations) worldwide! i use this pretty often, it's the highlight
of this post to me. It's great to be able to explore music from around the world in this way. There is a lot of interesting radio out there! Explore the world of sound in the sounds of the world.
Music brings us together and this site can assist that.
(this is Shirley & Spinoza Radio out of Dali, China that i'm listening to as i write this. so good <3.) Color palettes can be hard to come up with and sometimes we could use inspiration. Color Hunt (founded by Gal Shir) has a lot of cool user-submitted color palettes. You can search by color to start or check out the many collections like Summer or Coffee or get some random palettes. Palettes are able to be downloaded as an image and of course you get the hex and rgb values for each color. A palette of palettes. (so many palettes!) If you love words and playing with them, or maybe you're trying to make up some alien sounding words for that sci-fi short story you're writing, there's the Nonsense Laboratory to experiment with. It's hard for me to explain and better experienced. (this is the menu of the tools, after going through the introduction linked above)
This uses machine learning to mangle and distort words in different ways, like mixing words together or the "mouthfeel tuner" which lets you change how a word feels in the mouth, by for instance moving a slider to increase the amount of "ooo" sounds in a word or phrase. There are other tools in the Nonsense Laboratory to distort words and make new ones and some gibberish too.
thank you for your time and consideration!
...to be continued...
