This is a big topic - and I will hopefully find the time to cover this in detail soon - but for now allow me to offer a quality short review of it courtesy Tim Pool. The situation is as follows: SJW's are trying to invade the Linux development space and impose their rules there - such as diversity quota requirements. They are, in short, doing what they are doing pretty much everywhere they show up.
In response to this, some prominent developers threaten to withdraw their code from the codebase thus potentially destroying Linux, or at least drastically hobbling any future development. That may cause drastic consequences across the board as Linux runs all sorts of things, from your home WiFi router to massive compute clusters.
This is a very important development and I fully intend to follow it.

I will wait for important information and then I see this is something very serious about the future.
They can't remove their code so it's all hot air. I will be amazed if anything actually changes other than linus not blowing up at people.

I think they can actually revoke the code. Which naturally will not cause it to be removed from archived releases - but will stop effective continuity of the software life cycle.
So this may, at least in theory, prove quite disruptive, as far as I can tell.
I can't remember which podcast went over this but basically gpl2 allows them to revoke but cannot stop them from still putting it back. Also for anyone to do this will be heavily criticised by the rest of the community.
Linus' response clears up a bunch of misunderstandings on what it all really means for him.
